Borders Family History Society
We concentrate on the Scottish Borders region in south-eastern Scotland.
The Scottish Borders region comprises the old Border counties (Roxburghshire, Berwickshire, Selkirkshire and Peeblesshire), and part of the former Midlothian and Edinburghshire counties.
We're here to help people with their family history primarily in the Scottish Borders region, as well as in adjacent counties of England and Scotland.
We record monumental/gravestone/tombstone inscriptions, and research local social history and publish the results in our books and CDs; we also sell other relevant genealogical publications.
Members get a 44 page magazine three times a year and discounts on their monumental inscriptions volumes and research service, and free access to GEDCOM family trees by email.
Visitors can use the site to further their research by recording their Surname Interests (free), viewing others' Queries and Surname Interests (currently 9,300 interests recorded - covering more than 2,200 surnames), searching the indexes to our publications: the Gravestones Index, the Magazine Article Index, the Family Trees Index, or raising discussion topics in the Forums.
We have an extensive library of books, microfiche, microfilms, CDs, family trees, and magazines from some other family history societies - their catalogues are on the website.
You can also do research in our Archive and Search Room (appointment recommended) or ask us to do research for you.
Come and meet us at one of our Sunday meetings in Melrose (see our What's On page) - there's no admission charge.
The Society is a member of the Scottish Association of Family History Societies.
